Home > Use DBR for DB2 to Transform Your DB2 Backup System
DBR for DB2 can drive the DB2 BACKUP SYSTEM utility to simplify, enhance, and improve its reliability as follows:
- Provides an easy to use ISPF interface to set up and perform all aspects of the system-level backup and restore process.
- One backup can be used for system recovery, application recovery, object recovery, or disaster recovery using disaster restart procedures.
- Achieves successful recoveries by automatically performing backup validation at the time of the DB2 BACKUP SYSTEM to ensure the entire system is configured properly and was truly backed up.
- Restores objects from the DB2 BACKUP SYSTEM by maintaining a repository of where all files existed at the time of the backup.
- Reports the DB2 table space / index space data sets that were backed up - and what volumes they reside on within the backup so you no longer need to print the BSDS and combine it with the HSM report.
- Creates standard image copies from the system level backup to reduce production contention, reduce backup windows, and extend batch windows. These image copies can be registered in SYSCOPY and can be used by any utility that uses image copies as input.
- Provides an ISPF interface to perform the DB2 object restores. Users can predefine groups of objects into an object profile. These could be all objects related to an application. When the need to recover that application arises, the user simply uses the ISPF interface to restore the object profile.
- Provides the restore of a DB2 system or database objects in parallel with the restoration process (log apply) to help reduce recovery time and reduce application down time.
- Includes a feature that analyzes DB2 systems for possible configuration errors that will prevent a successful system backup and restore process.
- Provides a feature to assess the relative health of a system backup by reporting on any objects that will require special attention after a system restore is performed if a LOG NO event has occurred after the system backup was taken.
- Provides a complete disaster recovery solution using either a system backup or traditional image copies. This solution transforms disaster recovery into a disaster restart process, reducing recovery time objectives and cost.
