Database Backup and Recovery for DB2 on z/OS: Version 2.2 New Features

With Database Backup & Recovery for DB2, you can increase application availability and ensure resiliency with reliable subsystem backups and point-in-time recovery. New features for v2.2 help make your DB2 system backups easier and more versatile than ever.

  • Create image copies from system backups, eliminating contention on production objects.
  • The automapping feature (available for FlashCopy, Snap, and DFSMSdss backups) allows you to enter a range of target units or list of SMS storage groups; DBR will do the source-to-target mapping for you.
  • As part of a system restore, DBR can identify objects that will be left in pending states and can automatically generate the JCL required to recover or rebuild them.
  • DBR can ensure that system backups already made are valid for a recovery to a specific point in time. You can request a "health check" on a system backup, and DBR will determine whether recovery will be successful given that PIT. If image copies have been moved or a utility has been run on an object that makes recovery impossible, DBR can tell you which objects cannot be recovered and why.
  • Additional hardware supported includes Hitachi ShadowImage fast replication, EMC virtual devices, and any hardware vendor that supports DFSMSdss fast replication.
  • DBR V2.2 can make system backups without using fast replication hardware via DFSMSdss.
  • In object profiles, you can include all objects related to a table space index space via referential integrity by simply setting a flag, eliminating the need to select each object individually.
  • Support has been added for incremental FlashCopy.
  • Extra data protection can be implemented by encrypting the data during the data offload. DBR supports encryption mechanisms for both DFSMSdss and FDR offloads.
