Catalog BaseLine
The key to successful recovery

Catalog BaseLine™ supports an 'empty catalog' methodology at the disaster recovery site. The empty catalog methodology is simpler, cleaner, and less prone to errors, than taking populated catalogs and spending precious time and resources cleaning out unwanted catalog entries.

Catalog BaseLine provides the necessary catalog configuration to ensure a successful recovery.

  • User catalog definitions and ALIASes: Catalog BaseLine backs up and recovers the necessary catalog structure including necessary ALIAS entries and all required information necessary to re-create and reconnect the enterprise's ICF User Catalogs to one, or to multiple master catalogs.
  • GDG processing: Catalog BaseLine extracts and builds the necessary GDG Bases to re-create the enterprise's GDG Base definitions at the recovery site.

These processes produce either IDCAMS control statement syntax or an ABARS selection data set, to port either ICF user catalog definitions (UCAT), generation data group (GDG) base definitions, or both.

Each functional process mode (GDG or UCAT) creates portable information packages to transport to an alternate operating system location. If both processing modes are selected, both kinds of information will be found in the resulting output. However, recovery plans often dictate different handling for GDG and for user catalog recovery. In these instances, separate execution of Catalog BaseLine would be appropriate, with GDG processing and UCAT processing specified respectively.

Catalog BaseLine ensures that your catalogs and generation data sets are ready to support the empty catalog methodology.
